Why did you join Refugees Forward?

Starting your own company in the Netherlands is very complicated, especially if you have refugee status and don’t have any capital. In RF I find a unique chance of guidance throughout my first steps of launching my own company, with lower risks.

Could you tell us a bit about your background and what project you are going to be working on?

I am originally from Syria. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Energy in Aleppo. After graduating I worked as a government employee, while running a computer center I had started at the same time. Both jobs required a high level of organization and analyzing. During the program I hope to start an international trade company – I will act as a broker to import goods from mostly Arab countries to European countries. The first products will be chicken legs and olive oil.

What would you like to learn over the course of the program?

I want to learn how to conduct a proper market research and analysis, how to build a network in each of the industries I want to enter, and finally how to financially structure the business to make it profitable and sustainable.

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?

Hopefully after 2 years I will no longer act only as a broker and will have expanded my business activities.
